Ah, How Poets Sing and Die!
A reading of three Anne Spencer poems on the hard work of writing and justice
We’re nearing the end of our Juneteenth-to-Independence-Day project over at Bridge of Lament. For today’s Poetry Any Place reading, link to the post below, in which I read three short poems by Anne Spencer and give a meditation on her guidance through the hard work of both writing and justice:
Earth, I thank you
for the pleasure of your language
You’ve had a hard time
bringing it to me
from the ground
to grunt thru the noun
To all the way
feeling seeing smelling touching
—awareness
I am here!
