I would be very frightened under that tunnel. I guess my late husband would have tried to find another way in. He was British and at the islands' edges, there are many causeways

Thanks for this! It brings back so many memories. My first experience going through the tunnel. I was young and terrified we would be crushed, fooled NY the illusion of the tunnel getting smaller and smaller. I screamed for my dad to stop the car while my mom told me to be quiet and close my eyes.

Years later I traveled the Chesapeake Tunnel with my son every summer from the ages of 2 to 14. I learned to enjoy the bridge by then, the contrast if views from freedom on the bridge and confinement in the tunnel.

Yes, always good to connect with a fellow Eastern Shore native! Traveling between VA and MD, I always wondered about the stories of the homes and sites we drove by. Fodder for the imagination on a long drive.
